One of the most ruggedly beautiful alpine lakes in the Selkirk Mountains, Harrison Lake, at the wow gold headwaters of the Pack River, offers plenty of rewarding options for scrambling up granite talus to higher elevations for views into key habitat for endangered grizzly bears and mountain caribou. The lake, the second-largest high mountain lake in the Selkirks (Hidden is bigger), is accessible by two trails.

This was our second time doing Trail 6. We always took Trail wow gold 6 because of reviews that said the other trailhead needs a truck/suv, and we had neither. The roads up to the trailhead of Trail 6 are actually in great condition, and an easy--albeit long--drive for a small hatchback.

The trail itself was amazing. It wasn't too buy wow gear steep in many places, it had many switchbacks. And at this time of the year, there were TONS of huckleberries along the trail.

We took my in-laws up, and there were many birding opportunities for them; woodpeckers, mountain bluebirds, grouse. And the views were wonderful. Sometimes you'd be on a dirt trail among the switchbacks with wildflowers and shrubs surrounding wow gold you, next you'd be in this grassy meadow, with a view as far as the eye could see, then you were walking across giant rock slabs with lots of moss and lichens, and your way only guided by rock cairns. Then came the lake. Wow, just wow. The water was so clear, cool, and reflected the blue sky above. There were quite a few, overused campsites and a couple of bear boxes provided. I never saw any toilet, though. Walking to the left of the lake you had to use logs to cross the stream flowing out of the lake, but then you could scramble among large boulders, and some snow.

This was all-day roundtrip, wow items especially because of the drive in and out, but definitely worth the trip.

We hiked on trail 217, and getting to the trailhead meant driving on some really bad roads. (better be in a truck / suv) The trail offered many scenic views, fun little stream crossings, and although the way up was all uphill there weren't very many steep sections. We still had to track through melting snow, but it wasn't too bad. Saw lots of animal prints, but no wildlife. The sections where the trail opened onto granite slabs were well marked by stacked rocks. The lake was beautiful! Only disappointing thing was not being able to find a way to climb to the peak. We met others along the way who did, but I didn't want to struggle through the scrub brush a long way from the trail.
