So how do you fit a queen size bed into an 8-foot space? Improvise. Instead of thinking bookshelves only work in libraries or living spaces, think of what design flow works with your habits and lifestyle. For people whoread in bed and prefer to have a wealth of knowledge and inspiration at their fingertips, why not transfer your nightstand into a more "vertical" storage space. We call it "getting the night stand to stand up." You will recognize this CB2 bookshelf was previously in the client's den. Moving it to the bedroom provided more seating in the den and allowed us to buy a second one on sale to give readers space to store books and magazines, while stylistically anchoring the mirrored headboard. Clip lights or wall-mounted sconces work well to keep lamp bases from taking up the unnecessary surface area on a thin shelf like this. After all, a night cap is a night cap.

Not exactly a morning person? Me either and I've found the best way to rise and shine is to give yourself a visual wake-up call. Bright colors work well in small spaces and the best part about a bathroom is that the color intensity is usually only for a short while and usually quite refreshing. And if you find your stay in the powder room to be longer than most, then you're walking out looking like a million bucks anyway, so why not be bold. So I went for a color that looked great with the client's skin tone, but also reminds her of one of her favorite places in the world - the Caribbean. The colors she wears well are aqua, chartreuse and burnt orange. So the walls are blue like the ocean and her accents are warm and orange like the sun. Come summer, to spice things up a bit I plan to rotate out the towels, candles and roses to reflect lime and kellly greenand yellow undertones. Counting on a fabulous sun-kissed bronze tan to bouce off the yellows!

In Manhattan, a little square footage in the hallway practically constitutes a bedroom, so it's important for apartment dwellers to maximize their storage opportunities along hallways and in architectural nooks. We swapped out the antique desk for a buy wow weapons "multimedia" console which measured only 6" wide. Now mind you that is the same 6-inches that the kitchen buffet already extends, less than a foot away, so it is a natural "reserve" that works to extend the length and function of the wall. The lighter honey-finish is not as imposing as the old piece of furniture and the low height of the piece allows for an open feeling, not cutting the short ceilings in half. And remember when living in a box, it's ok to think out of the box. Just because the retailer designed a piece of furniture for CDs and DVDs, doesn't mean your yoga and workout wear won't fit perfectly.

Here is a classic example of the organic and evolving process of perfect design. Nothing is born perfect, it takes time and evolution for survival of the prettiest. You'll notice when you see the before and after photos that a few of the details from the original design werec hanged from the concept board. The brown Seville suede throw pillows were a shade too dark to accentuate the brown wood trim of the black leather chair, so they were returned and we're still trying decide between to 2 options below, so cast your vote on the Paisley or Carrizo Striped Throw Pillow. And yes, I referred to Wal-mart above and believe it or not, each throw pillow cost less than $13.

The 2 drawers in the coffee table are the new storage for what used to be in the hallway desk. The square coffee table also offers an expansive area for the couple to have dinners and entertain folks at wow gold more than the old 2 points of the old rectangular coffee table. She has a fabulous apartment in Brooklyn Heights, which is the heart of Brooklyn and though she hasn't had an official housewarming party, if I could give her a gift it would be the gift of a country cottage - the perfect reflection of her personal style, Southern grace and wholesome warmth. She already has white quilted bedding and white linen curtains from Pottery Barn, plus a powder-blue quilt and a multitude of brightly colored throw pillows for the white love seat. Now for the odds and ends to create an eclectic mix of traditional country and on a dime-store budget that would make your mama proud!
