Canada Indie MusicIt wouldn't be an outdoor music festival without a little inclement weather, so when the third day of Osheaga featured on and off rain all day, festival goers embraced it. There was one last day of music at Parc Jean Drapeau, and everyone wanted to make the most of it.Unwilling to let the Weeknd take sexiest hip hop act of Osheaga guild wars 2 gold, Common came out in fine form at the River Stage. Oozing with charisma and sex appeal, the Chicago native had his mid-afternoon audience eating out of the palm of his hand, and it's no wonder; Common has been connecting with his fans in a plethora of ways for his two decade career. From writing children's books (The Mirror and Me, I like you but I Love Me), to motivational speaking, to acting (Smokin' Aces, Terminator Salvation), the hip hop star has made himself a true jack of all trades. With the release of his latest album The Believer, The Dreamer, Common continues to be one of the most positive and inspirational voices in his genre, and that message translated wonderfully in his live performance. It was clear that Common is not only a great performer, that he enjoys performing immensely. Playing songs from the new record, as well as fan favourites "Go" and his section of Kid Cudi's single "Make her Say", and even throwing in a mini cover of "Watch the Throne" by Jay-Z and Kanye West, Common and his fans alike were having a fantastic time. Wrapping up with a little pitch for his AMC show Hell on Wheels, Common made way for another awesome hip hop artist coming up on the next stage over.Santi White, aka Santigold sauntered onto the Mountain stage costumed in lime green and flanked by dancers. A music industry veteran (she was an Epic records A rep in nineties) gw2 gold, White fronted punk rock band Stiffed before branching out on her own and releasing Santogold, her debut album. Santigold is also a music festival veteran, having played Lollapalooza, Coachella and even Bonnaroo, so she was right at home on the Osheaga stage. The crowd was huge considering the late afternoon time slot, ready to be entertained by Ms. Gold's avant garde and artistic R stylings. "House is burning down" opened up the set, but it was during her breakout single "The creator" that fans really went wild, especially since Santigold decided to pull a group of fans up on stage to dance with her as she sang. "Hold the line" featured an equine guest star as a kitschy two person horse costume trotted onto the stage. And the irresistible beat of "Freak like me" had the entire crowd dancing on the muddy grounds.Over on the Scene Verte, British rockers Bloc Party were distracting fans from the rainy weather with their killer rock tunes. and abroad until their hiatus 10 years later. In late 2011, Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Russell Lissack (lead guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass guitar, synths, backing vocals, glockenspiel), and Matt Tong (drums) got the band back together in secret and began recording tracks for a new album. Four, the band's aptly named fourth album is due for release in late August, and gave Bloc Party another set of songs with which to wow fans at Osheaga. But it was of course the old favourites that were the real crowd pleasers. "Banquet" from Silent Alarm gave Okereke a chance to show off is vocal strength and range. "Positive Tension" featured a great drum and bass opening courtesy of Moakes and Tong. Instantly recognizable by Lissack's rolling guitar opening, "Helicopter" had the mosh pit going crazy. Their performance was energetic and enthralling guild wars 2 gold, making it clear that the band was rejuvenated by their time off. But after a show like that, it was clear that fans were very pleased to have Bloc Party back on the music scene.Metric has been making waves on the Canadian and international music scene since the late nineties. With five indie released records under their belts, Emily Haines (vocals/guitar/synths), James Shaw (guitar), Joshua Winstead (bass) and Joules Scott-Key (drums) had well earned their after dark spot on the Osheaga Mountain stage. For fans that had only ever heard Metric's music in recorded form, their live performance on the Mountain stage was a revelation. Haines redefines intensity. From the first note of opening song "Artificial Nocturne" her passion was radiating into the audience. But it was during "Lost Kitten" that it was clear she had enticed and enchanted every person in earshot. New single "Youth without Youth" from Synthetica featured distorted vocals by Shaw and Windstead and trippy glockenspiel accompaniment. Fan favourites "Gold, Guns, Girls", "Sick Muse" and "Dead Disco" featured a massive chorus of singing voices from the crowd. Metric definitely put on the best performance of this last day of Osheaga. And the cherry on that already delicious musical Sunday was the beautiful acoustic arrangement of "Gimme Sympathy" that not only showed Metric's softer side, but closed their incredible set.The Black Keys have been climbing up the festival food chain for the past few years, to finally reach the top this year. In 2012 the Akron, Ohio natives headlined Coachella, Lollapalooza, and of course, Osheaga. While Dan Auerbach (guitar/vocals) and Pat Carney (drums) may not put on the most visually thrilling show, musically they are always impeccable, and their festival closing performance was no exception. With no preamble the pair launched into "Howlin' for you" from Brothers, immediately raising the energy level all around them. The Black Keys made full use of their extensive song catalogue, from "Girl is on my mind" from Rubber Factory, to "Your Touch" from Magic Potion, "Lonely boy" from their latest album El Camino. Highlights were heavily fuzzed out "Thickfreakness", smile inducing "Tighten up" and the extended acoustic opening of "Little Black Submarines". The opening strains of "Everlasting Light" usually signalled the arrival of a beautiful disco ball that would dangle over the stage, but Osheaga organizers had something a little different in mind. As the beautifully sweet song started up, the audience was showered with 'pixel rain''. The mesmerizing moment was designed and executed by Moment Factory in collaboration with Air France. The "pixels" were actually little helicopters that lit up the sky to the rhythm "Everlasting Light", as well as "Long Gone" and the set ending "I Got Mine" from Attack and Release. Not only did fans get treated to yet another fantastic Black Keys show, but the lucky two thousand that caught the pixels ended up with bracelets that granted 20% off any Air France Flight, and five even luckier fans actually won free flights to anywhere in Europe.
